Which criteria hold up when you don’t know either vendor?

Fixing the criteria before the names appear is the only way to keep a comparison honest, so here they are.

Provenance comes first, because it determines who can answer a hard question later. A supplier either states that it synthesizes the material or describes obtaining it from someone who does. The verbs on an about page are usually enough to tell you which, and a site that avoids the question has told you something too.

Second, is the testing laboratory named? This row separates a claim you can check from a claim you can only accept. A named lab can be contacted independently, and a vendor that publishes the name has accepted that risk on purpose.

Third, how many assays actually run? HPLC purity measures the proportion of the sample under the main peak. Mass spectrometry confirms that peak carries the expected mass, which is the identity question. Endotoxin measures bacterial breakdown products and sterility looks for viable growth, both of which a purity trace is blind to. Heavy metals by ICP-MS is a useful extension rather than a substitute for any of the four.

Fourth, is a certificate readable before purchase and tied to a lot number that appears on the vial? A document that can’t be matched to material describes a process rather than recording a batch.

Fifth, do blends publish milligrams per component? A total weight leaves you unable to calculate a concentration for any single compound in the mixture.

Age of company and age of domain aren’t included, since they describe billing history rather than analytical practice.

The standard used in this comparison

Those five rows are what Blank Peptides publishes its own lots against, in a public library of batch certificates of analysis. A rubric written by a market participant should be labelled as such, and a standard has more weight when its author is already measured by it. That’s the extent of the relevance here, and everything below concerns Phoenix Peptide and Ascend Bio Labs.

What Phoenix Peptide publicly states

Phoenix Peptide operates phoenixpeptide.com and identifies itself on the site as Phoenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The site reads as a research chemistry supplier rather than a consumer storefront, and its documentation reflects that orientation.

On provenance, the answers are clear. The about page states “All production is done in-house in the USA.” The product categories page states “Chemically synthesized research peptides manufactured 100% in the USA” and that “All products made at our facilities in Burlingame, CA.” The homepage states “We manufacture Research Peptides, Antibodies, and Assay Kits.” The site publishes a physical address at 330 Beach Road, Burlingame, CA 94010 and describes “a small team of 20 people”.

On testing, the about page states “Guaranteed Purity of up to >95%”, and the custom synthesis page states “Purity > 98%.” The peptides catalog page states that “Our peptides undergo rigorous quality control and testing to ensure the highest purity standards.” No analytical method sits behind either purity figure on the pages reviewed 2026-09-08. A named third-party laboratory was not listed, mass spectrometry, endotoxin and sterility results were not listed, and a viewable lot-specific certificate was not listed on the pages that loaded.

There’s a fairness point attached to that. Several parts of phoenixpeptide.com returned a 403 access error during the review, including the services and shipping pages, so some product-level documentation may sit behind those responses. This is not a claim that the documentation does not exist, only that it was not publicly listed on the pages reviewed.

Where Phoenix Peptide is genuinely strong is capability rather than paperwork. Its stated offering covers catalog peptides, custom peptide synthesis, antibody production and assay kits, with custom work quoted at “2-3 weeks” typical delivery. A researcher who needs a sequence synthesized to order, or an immunoassay matched to it, gets something no catalog storefront can supply.

What Ascend Bio Labs publicly states

Ascend Bio Labs trades at ascendbiolabs.com, and its documentation is unusually specific about testing, which makes the gaps easier to see too.

On provenance, the site states products are “Synthesized, tested, and shipped entirely from the United States” and the shop header states “Research-grade peptides. Third-party tested. Batch-level certificates of analysis. USA-made.” A statement naming the entity that performs the synthesis, or describing a facility the company operates, was not listed on the pages reviewed 2026-09-08. So the country is answered and the operator isn’t.

On testing, the site is the more detailed of the two by a wide margin. It states “Third-party HPLC + LC-MS, endotoxin, and heavy metal testing on every batch”, and clarifies the roles as “HPLC for purity, LC-MS for identity.” Purity claims are stated as a “99%+ minimum purity standard” with “99.3% Avg. verified purity” quoted as an aggregate. That covers purity, identity and endotoxin by method, which is three of the four core rows plus heavy metals. A sterility result was not listed on the pages reviewed 2026-09-08, and the testing laboratory was not named in site copy.

On certificate access, the site states that “The COA is stamped with the batch number, test date, and lab name and uploaded to the product page before any vial from that lot ships”, and products in the shop carry a “COA Verified” marker. On catalog and blends, the shop listed roughly 42 products on 2026-09-08, though the homepage stated both “38+ compounds in catalog” and “27+ compounds in catalog” in different places, which I’d note as an inconsistency rather than anything more. Blends include a Wolverine Blend described as “BPC-157 + TB-500” at 20 mg total with no per-component split listed, a CJC no DAC and Ipamorelin blend stated as 5 mg and 5 mg, and a stack listing 10 mg Retatrutide, 10 mg MOTS-c, 10 mg BPC-157 and 50 mg GHK-Cu. How to verify either supplier yourself

  • Open a product page for the exact compound and size you want, and see whether a certificate is actually attached rather than promised in a banner elsewhere on the site.
  • Read the certificate header before the numbers. An issuing laboratory, a batch identifier and a test date have to be present together, because any one of them alone can be reproduced by anybody with a PDF editor.
  • Check the four core assays individually. Purity, identity, endotoxin and sterility each need a method and a result, and heavy metals or fentanyl screening are additions rather than replacements for a missing row.
  • Where a company states an offering you can’t see, ask for it in writing and keep the answer, and retry any page that returned an access error from a different network before treating it as a gap.
  • Record both companies against the supplier verification checklist so the comparison finishes as a filled-in sheet instead of a memory of two homepages.
